This resource offers a variety of low-prep, high-impact activities designed to build the foundational skills measured by the Acadience Reading assessments (e.g., Letter Naming, Phonemic Segmentation, Nonsense Word Fluency, Oral Reading Fluency).

These activities are perfect for complementing Tier 1 instruction and are designed to transform routine, transitional moments throughout the school day—such as lining up, walking to the carpet, or waiting for dismissal—into quick, powerful learning opportunities.

  • This resource supports the "Achieve" priority by providing targeted learning opportunities that aim for excellence in foundational literacy skills measured by the Acadience Reading assessments. Though they complement Tier 1 instruction, these activities can be easily modified for use in Tier 2 small-group settings to provide targeted, explicit intervention.

  • These activities are designed to be inclusive and to foster a sense of belonging by encouraging students to interact. Many activities also incorporate movement and kinesthetic practice (such as hopping or clapping), which helps engage students physically and supports their mental and emotional well-being during the school day.

  • Creative and flexible approaches to learning and teaching transform routine moments into learning opportunities. These activities challenge students to analyze, categorize, and solve problems, fostering a deeper logical foundation for early literacy.

Please reach out to a Learning Coach for additional support in incorporating these activities into your classroom routines.
