Supporting Multilingual Learners (MLL)

  • This section includes practical, research-informed tools and resources to support multilingual learners across the curriculum. The resources focus on knowing the learner, making learning and language visible, scaffolding language without reducing thinking, creating opportunities for meaningful language use, and assessing what students know and can do.

  • The Ontario Ministry of Education provides guidance to support educators in planning responsive and inclusive programs for English language learners. This resource highlights the importance of building on students’ prior knowledge and experiences, supporting language development across the curriculum, differentiating instruction and assessment, and creating learning environments where multilingual learners can participate meaningfully and demonstrate their learning.
