Assessment

In an assessment approach focused on gathering data, educators collect a range of evidence that highlights a student’s most current and consistent demonstrations of understanding. This evidence should reflect and honour the student’s lived experiences at school, at home, and in the broader community, as well as their learning strengths and mathematical thinking.

Students may demonstrate their learning through different types of evidence. Diverse forms of knowledge and individual strengths are recognized as valid indicators of learning. By triangulating multiple sources of evidence, teachers can gain a clearer and more accurate picture of each student’s progress.

“The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning.”
