• These sample literacy blocks are organized by grade and help support educators in planning instructional time to ensure that all required components are covered.

• Embedded within each block are helpful links for read aloud books, complementary text sets, decodable books, reading routines, and more!

• We recognize that there is more flexibility in the Kindergarten program given that it is grounded in play-based and inquiry-driven learning. This flexibility allows educators to respond to children’s interests, developmental stages, and learning needs while ensuring that essential Language skills are addressed within this framework.

• Please ensure that your Kindergarten plans include explicit instruction in phonological awareness and phonics programs, vocabulary, reading, and comprehension instruction through read alouds, small-group (Tier 2) instruction based on student needs, and opportunities for writing throughout the day.
