Canadian History since World War I

IIn this lesson, students will explore the contributions of Indigenous peoples during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. They will work in groups to discuss these contributions and write a RACE paragraph to explain their understanding. Students will also learn about the discrimination Indigenous veterans faced after returning home, as well as how their service is recognized today and how they continue to contribute to Canadian society.

This lesson aims to raise student awareness of Indigenous people who served and died in the Canadian military. Students will explore their contributions through the Canadian Virtual War Memorial, learn about military identity discs ("dog tags"), and understand the importance of honoring their sacrifices and achievements.
